With the first week of the Cyprus trip now over, the team continues to adjust to the heat and rest in preparation for our next week.
Our second week involves more structure and work, and will be our busiest time during the trip.
The team, this week, has run an English class for refugee children. Their parents were taking a more official English class across the street, so the main goal was to babysit while they committed their time to learning.
We had between seven to ten kids, all from a variety of places. We had some from Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Egypt. Some of them knew English quite well, but most did not.
It was a challenging experience, but through short lessons, water balloons and sponges, ice cream, water melon, and a variety of crafts and games, the team was able to keep up with the kids for three hours per day.
The team is now preparing for the Holiday Club (VBS), which will focus around Jesus and the many parables he had shared in the gospels.
- Please pray for the kids from the refugee camp, that God would watch over them and that their families would be provided for.
- Please pray for Holiday Club, as we will be taking a new group of kids for a more biblically focused time.
- Please pray for our ability to continue to adapt to the heat, as well as for our endurance.
Again, here is Matthew 19:13-14.
13 Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, 14 but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
